Picasso and Miro
Posted by Dylan on May 26, 2009There are many galleries to visit in Barcelona, Spain. Hotel accommodations are numerous and the influence of the artistic history of the city can been seen in these hotels, as well as the cafes, and the restaurants throughout the city. Evidence is such due to the fact that many of the famous Spanish painters lived and worked in Barcelona, if not all of their lives, for at least part of them. Painters such as Miro and Picasso have been so influential in the world of art, that there are museums and galleries throughout Barcelona dedicated to just their works individually.
Of course there is the famous Museum Picasso which is the most visited and popular art museum of Barcelona, each year attracting more than one million art lovers. This museum contains one of the most extensive collections of the artists work to date. The paintings are arrange ingeniously by the curators, in the chronological order in which Picasso had worked on and completed them. This is fascinating and is an interesting insight into the way in which Picasso’s art developed and how his thinking changed during his career. It is a walk through his own history and brings one to understand the designs that he has become so famous for today.
Another great gallery is located not far from the Prado and that is the one dedicated to the work of Joan Miro, the Fundacio Joan Miro. Miro produced a variety of work using many different mediums such as tapestry weaving, sculpture, painting and drawing. This gallery houses work of Miro’s that dates back to 1914, and is an interesting look at the varied methods used to create these masterpieces. Both of these art houses are very well respected and admired, as well as the artists they represent and celebrate, and for anyone traveling through this city of magnificent art, these are to stops that must not be overlooked.
