Healing Stones of Singapore

Posted by Dylan on August 27, 2009

For the past few years, I have been going on these vacations Singapore offers through my place of work. One deal was to spend time learning about all the different healing modalities of the country. The one I enjoyed the best was about the healing powers of crystal stones.

This one place, which was on the tour, gave us all a lesson about crystal stones. Apparently, they have been helping people to understand their personal strength and weaknesses concerning money matters, careers, luck and relationships by doing numerology readings with healing crystal stones. We each got a reading and got to learn how to pick with healing crystal stone is the correct one for us. It’s a unique healing process kit designed by this place and has been successful in helping thousands of people improve their personal destiny in many opportunities. The healing method helps people who are suffering with negative blockage energy.

The showed us all the testimonials from some very famous people around the world and from all the other regular people from around the world. Like, they got a new job, a better career opportunity, a promotion, better salary or just an increase in luck. New romances were on the horizon or they solved unresolved issues or problems and their love life had never been better. We were told that usually, after a numerology reading a crystal stone will be selected based on our individual needs at the moment of the reading. After my reading, I truly became a believer of the numerology reading. I found it to be a very powerful healing and consulting tool. The crystal that was picked out for me was labradorite which is supposed to help me with insight and contemplation.

Ever since my vacation, my life has been improving and opportunities seem to drop in my lap. So, next time your in Singapore, why not stop in a place that will read your numerology and pick a healing crystal stone, what do you have to lose?

Delhi’s Reggae India

Posted by Dylan on August 27, 2009

When spending time in India’s Delhi, luxury is a big consideration.  When the hotel is really the central meeting place of the journey, where you begin and end your days, a luxurious accommodation can do wonders to restore strength and clarity to the body and mind. Our luxury accommodations will show you that it is possible to have it all.  With a splendid blend of contemporary convenience and classical elegance, the ambience alone will help to rejuvenate our guests, so that you may be ready to enjoy the city with style and panache.  Modern technologies mingle with old-fashioned good service to make a heady and sumptuous experience in world travel.

Delhi’s reputation as one of the most exciting cities on earth is very well founded.  It has acted as a magnet for some of the best minds in the world, attracting artists and scientists and people of commerce for centuries.  Today, it is still one of the primary economic and artistic centers in the world, and there are some very exciting things happening here.  In music, there is a fantastic variety of cultures and languages with an extremely eclectic local music scene.  Some players are influenced by the music of antiquity, following a bloodline of musicians that goes back hundreds, if not thousands, of years.  Others are influence by the latest trends in digital recording and experimental sounds.  In between, there is Reggae India.

This is a New Delhi-based collective of young musicians and djs who share a love of reggae music and culture, and are working to play its sound loud in the heart of India.  One of the driving forces behind Reggae India, DJ MoCity, was born in Baghdad, and grew up here.  Combing his hiphop roots and throwing in the beats that come from Jamaica’s long history and honed in the 1960’s, there is a fantastic sound brewing here.  One of the other forces behind the effort, Priyanka Singh, one of a few female djs in Delhil, started playing reggae at clubs seven years ago.  There is a tremendous energy behind this, and a thorough knowledge of the traditions and the contemporary scene, and the rhythm is already starting under our feet.

Fans can still see US Open live

Posted by Dylan on August 26, 2009

For the US Open 2009, tennis fans will get to watch live and for free through a streaming service.  There will be 150 matches, or perhaps more.  It promises to provide fans with over 300 hours of the game.

In interactive-media console was created and constructed by IBM.  It has commentary available for users to put in their opinions of the game and updates of the stats around the clock among the services it created for diehard fans unable to attend the match because of money or scheduling conflicts.

The United States Tennis Association also has brought in two fresh partners in promotion of the game.  Stonyfield Farm and Westin hotels are also sponers of the US Open.  They will be providing their patrons the five tennis courts on which the matches will be played along with the usual commentary from various announcers In High-Def.

Pierce O’Neil, the United States Tennis Association chief business officer, has claimed that it is a milestone of a deal.  It promises to offer tennis fans the opportunity to see the game live for free, but in quality.  For those who didn’t get a deal with the US Open Sweepstakes, they now have a chance to still experience the game as if they were there.

Another member of the United States Tennis Association has said that the High-Def capabilities IBM gave them will allow fans to have a more vibrant view of the game in addition to it being live.  It is a big step for them in how they can make the game available for everyone of every means and not matter where they might be in the country.  They can the US Open tennis scores happening as if they were right there watching their favorite player.

Face Foreclosure Directly

Posted by Dylan on August 26, 2009

All across the United States, homeowners are dealing with the stress of impending foreclosures.  Brooklyn,  New York residents are feeling the pinch, just as are the residents in Pasadena, California.  It is something that weighs on so many minds, the minds of hard working American people.  Sometimes, when something is difficult to deal with or to think about, people will tend to ’stick their heads in the sand’ and just hope that the problem will go away.

This is not the best strategy for anything, much less the possibility of loosing one’s house, their home.  The best way to attend to it, is to attend to it.  When notices are received in the mail, and when that is combined with the knowledge that one is behind on their mortgage payment, some people will tend to ignore the mail, ignore the phone.  Contact the lender, be upfront and pro-active.  Ignoring the problem does not mean it will go away, and to be honest, one really isn’t ignoring it.  It will remain on one’s mind.

So it is best just to open the mail, best to just pick up the phone and dial and deal with the issue directly.  As soon as one realizes that a payment on the mortgage just can not be met, call the lender.  Lenders are not the bad guys.  They do not want their clients to loose their homes.  Often times they do have programs that will ease stress, and still allow one to keep their home.  They have a variety of options that are intended to keep one in their house, not take it away.

Each U.S. state has different laws and regulations, it is always good to know your rights, to be up on the laws of your state, and to read and re-read the loan documents, so that you know exactly what your options are, what they would be.  If one is not aware of the laws in one’s home state, simply contact the State Government Housing Office.  They will have answers to the questions one may have regarding the laws of the state on mortgages and foreclosure.  These are trying times for many American citizens, but it isn’t the end of the world.  There are options and there are people that are there to help.

The Arrest of the Anti Corruption Leader in Nigeria

Posted by Dylan on August 26, 2009

The well known Nigerian founder of the anti-corruption agency, the ANLC-Association Nigerienne de Lutte contre la Corruption, was arrested over the weekend as he traveled across the capital city of Nigeria.  Maman Abou created the agency, known in English as the Niger Fight Against Corruption Association,  was captured in the city of Niamey.  Upon leaving the house of another member of his agency he was arrested by the Republican he was taken into custody by the Nigerian Republican Guard as he was switching taxi cabs.

Since Saturday, August 22, Maman has not been allowed to contact his lawyer, and he is being held without an explanation as to the charges that are alleged against him.  He is a leading proponent in the idea of transparency in government affairs, which calls for ethical government practices and accountability of those politicians in regards to the their actions.  He had recently attained the position of the Secretary General of a network of organizations that intend to preserve and protect Democracy,  this during times when politically speaking, the country of Niger is in turmoil.

He wrote a letter to the president of the country, Mamadou Tandja last month, calling upon the president to respect the laws that are intended to safeguard the citizens of his country, to guarantee that due process of law and justice will reign, and that the institutions of democracy would further support the accountability and transparency policies.  These policies have been enacted in many democratic countries, including the United States, as a way of ensuring honest and open and ethical practices among politicians specifically, but are put to use quite often in the business and financial sectors as well.  Many protesters were arrested in Niger over the weekend, they were protesting the changes Tandja was putting forth to the country’s Constitution, however Maman had not been part of the protest.

The Herefordshire Cathedral and Chained Library

Posted by Dylan on August 25, 2009

Herefordshire is located on the banks of Wye River, amidst the incredible and peaceful scenery.  The Hereford Church sits along these banks and is a location that has been a worship site for hundreds of years, dating back to the Saxon era.  While some of the buildings are traditional and some are modern such as the Herefordshire hotels,  the Hereford Cathedral is a mix of a variety of styles that have shaped the church into the architectural wonder that it is today.

Some of the aspects have been restored such as the shrine for Saint Thomas, the New Library Building and the monument to the English Lady, all of which had been restored during 1996.  Many different events take place at the cathedral including music recitals and concerts, touring exhibitions, restaurants and gift shops.  The Hereford Cathedral is also home to a Chained library.  This is a library in which the books are literally chained to the bookcase itself.

In this way the books can still be read but they can not be removed from the premises.  This was a common mode of business in the libraries of the Middle Ages, as during the time the books were incredible valuable.  This library in Hereford is fascinating and part of the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region, as well as the history of the library itself.  The books were housed in the cathedral many years before the library was built.  The Hereford Gospels is one of the historic books and one of the most important book in the collection.

There are two sections to the library, contained two hundred and twenty nine books from the Medieval times.  This is the largest of the chained libraries to remain with so many components still intact, rods, chains, locks and books.  The chamber in the library was designed especially to preserve the books, the chamber is sealed and temperature controlled as many of the books are hundreds of years old, and very delicate.  This is a wondrous place to visit for book and history lovers, on tour through Herefordshire, England.

Tolerance vs. Acceptance

Posted by Dylan on August 25, 2009

Tolerance, we are frequently taught to tolerate. My feeling is tolerating is not understanding simply putting up with something we do not like or agree with. Tolerance means we have judged a behavior or action as wrong and we will simply tolerate this. Who are we to be judging the actions of others? What puts us in a place where we can judge another actions? Tolerance has a negative connotation I would suggest. A connotation of judgement that something is wrong or bad. Acceptance is another story. When we accept someone we are open and without judgement. We accept them, their behavior and what they are in all their differences. Acceptance puts forth the idea of understanding. Perhaps not understanding on an exact level with action, but acceptance that there are differences between you and me and that they are real and exist and there for accepted. With tolerance there will always be an underling judgement and with that judgement will come the desire to change what we are tolerating. Weather the attempt to change it is overt and obvious or subtle and even unseen by the person attempting to effect the change. Many religious traditions teach tolerance of other traditions. This creates problems as the tradition usually teaches nothing about the other tradition, they simply state we are right and they should be tolerated because they are wrong. The statement isn’t generally made that out right, they are wrong, but is is strongly implied with in teaching the of we are right so therefore they must be wrong and we will simply tolerate them. This means they will be looked down on, thought of as less than and pity bestowed on them. Acceptance is the key as we concluded our discussion on he beach of our luxury Perth hotels.

Strange stories of Singapore

Posted by Dylan on August 25, 2009

I was travelling with fellow co-workers to a work-site in one of the Singapore car rentals when one of my colleagues brought up this story about a woman suffering from headaches. Apparently, this story was reported in the Singapore Medical Journal. A 45 year old woman was brought into a hospital unconscious. The information the doctors got from her family members is that she had been suffering from a headache, more on the right side of her head, for about 10-years. It would come off and on when exacerbated. Her family, distraught about how this woman was suffering, took her to see a Tantric. The Tantric solution was to hammer a nail into her head to get rid of the bad omen.

I know a little bit about Tantrics, they are Hindu spiritualist and from what I know the good old nail in the head is not an option they would practice. This practice does have similarities to what is known as trephanation, which is not only one of the oldest known forms of surgery, but also one that was taken quite seriously into modern times. When people started demanding proof that this practice worked, it stopped being practiced.  But, as I discussed this with my fellow colleagues in the rental car, things got too ridiculous. Comments like, ‘Everybody knows you shouldn’t use a crooked nail for headaches,’ or ‘You’d think a Tantric in modern Singapore would use a pneumatic nail gun,’ or ‘The problem was in the required dosage: take Two nails and call me in the morning.’

Luckily, the story had a happy ending. The doctors successfully removed the nail, and the woman concerned recovered consciousness and seemed to be doing well. As for my fellow colleagues, well that an entirely different story.

Perth in a Healing State of Mind

Posted by Dylan on August 25, 2009

I’ve come to Australia to attend a new energy healing seminar. I’ve booked a room at one of the Perth boutique hotels for the duration of the seminar. Am fascinated by the research being done on this subject. I’ve wondered if there was a way to record when healing energies are being channeled directly to a client. Also, if they can record energy before and after a channeled healing session. The Metaphysical Institutes’s seminar will cover their most recent research on energy healing with the graphing of the human life energy fields that are within the body.

During the seminar they demonstrated some of what they are researching. They take readings by measuring the electrical energy in a number of points on a person’s hand and feet before an energy healing takes place. The energy healing modality being used has no actual physical contact with the client. The measurements will then graph all the major energy meridians within the body on a computer monitor which will show the ying/yang (left/right) balance and more.

Then they demonstrated how the heart energy healing works. We communicate with our mind to these human life energy fields through the universal life force energy. This communication is done in the Delta state, where like in Reiki, they use the Alpha state. But, we were told both results are still obtained by communicating through universal life force energy of the patient. The results recorded were dramatic after the healing sessions. The graphing changes recorded were astonishing. They explained that this research is about finding out which individual fields are affected; even at the times when the healing is dealing purely with spiritual issues. Then they told us that this research is a precursor to what happens to the physiology, chemical changes and and DNA changes in the body.

When the seminar was over, I had a new found appreciation for the capacity of the healing nature of the human species. It was proven to me that with the right healing intentions, concentration and practice, of course, that we humans have a great gift.

Cantonese Opera in Singapore

Posted by Dylan on August 25, 2009

Singapore has vibrant arts and culture scene. It is a continually growing and progressive urban center that focuses both on great contemporary works as well as traditional performance and art genres. The Cantonese opera companies of Singapore are extremely dedicated to the art and are well respected and supported by the community. They are also popular shows for tourists who are staying in one of the luxury hotels Singapore. There are many forms of theatrical performances available in Singapore, and companies range from presenting current major musical touring shows, to the more intimate and cutting edge new works by local artists.

While Cantonese originated in the southern region of China, and appropriately the Cantonese culture, it is an extremely popular form of theatre in other parts of China, particularly Hong Kong as well as Singapore and Malaysia. It is a traditional art form that dates back many centuries and features various aspects of ancient Chinese culture, such as martial arts, acrobatics, acting and singing. They are accompanied by music. The Cantonese developed their own specific style of opera, which is believed to based on a northern Chinese opera that found its way to the southern part of the country sometime in the late 1200s. The music of the opera is generally classified into two particular styles, the theatrical, and the singing. The theatrical style can be either Chinese or Western in sound and structure while the singing form is always a Western based sound. The Western music in these operas will usually consist of stringed instruments, woodwinds and brass. Usually the music of all the operas will be broken down into the melodic and percussive categories. The erhu is a bowed fiddle instrument with two strings and is commonly used. Other instruments used in contemporary productions include guitars and saxophones, which represents the progressive nature of the operas.Check out these other hotels

Chinese Duck in Kuala Lumpur

Posted by Dylan on August 24, 2009

After a six hour flight and and interminable wait a the airport for my bag, (I could not carry it on, it was like two centimeters too long, but I exaggerate, I could have been out of the a lot faster) I was famished, starved, and eying a review of a Chinese restaurant in Kual Lumpur called Sek Yuan. It apparently is an old school place with mid twentieth century charm (this means differing things to different people) and so hungry was I that i went right up to an auto rickshaw, showed the guy with a tight elastic black sock like cap and gold necklace the address and said in my best Malay “How much?” You could not do this at one of the luxury hotels Malaysia has. Normally one might get into an extended argument but I think he say the look of seriousness on my face (I needed to eat) we quickly agreed to a price that I wrote on a lip of paper and we trundled off, then zipped off, dodging traffic like aping pong ball, the humid KL air enveloping me with the smells of the street, the blaring horns and the insane, suicidal drivers. We bounced around for what seemed like forever but was i think twenty minutes  tops wen when wheezed to the restaurant. I could not believe he found it.

I gave the black stockinged fellow a hearty tip that cause his eyes to rotate like a radar dish and my stomach was ratating the same way as I anticipated the evening of Malaysian chines food. Well they had duck hanging int he the back and that was that, I set myself down in the spare restaurant and orderd tea and had the most tremendous Peking duck dish I have ever had, lean, not so fatty as I am used to, cooked to perfection. The waiter looked on in admiration as I just about inhaled the thing, leaving a glistening pile of bones. I’m gonna like Malaysia.

Different Approaches to Problem Solving

Posted by Dylan on August 24, 2009

During any trial or court case, a Las Vegas lawyer will learn that creative thinking will serve to solve problems that may not be solved through logical consideration.  A person skilled in adaption, of being able to see different situations in different, and perhaps unconventional ways, is one that will eventually be the most successful in business ventures.

Some challenges must be solved logically, court cases are often times all or nothing, but sometimes is is necessary to view certain circumstances as a give and take, and those able to understand the means best employable to serve a specific need, are those that one will want on their team, be it a marketing team, , a team of lawyers, a sales team, a Tour de France team, or a coed-parks and rec softball team.  Problem solving is a skill that is required in everyday life, and one that is valuable in the corporate world.

This is an idea based on lateralization, of going at a situation with more than one plan in one’s pocket.  This is best applied when one creates a diverse team, a team of people skilled in different ways.  Some think of situations visually.  Some think in terms of logic or mathematics…or in current times ethically and morally.  It is best to have a combined group of people on any team, each with the same long term goal for any given project, and also each with creative ways, different ways of going about attaining that goal.

The best possible combination is that which combines the creative approach with the scientific approach.  Even though each performs a different task, both a hammer and a nail are necessary in building a table.  On top of that, so is it necessary to have a carpenter involved.  No one element is the most important, each one is necessary for performing the tasks required to meet the end result.  All ‘parts’ are necessary to create the whole.

A View of Langkawi

Posted by Dylan on August 24, 2009

I hadn’t even heard of Langkawi when Vicky declared she had a photo shoot there and would I like to go? Um, sure, I had just finished my screenplay and sent it off and needed a break from, well, the reason I started writing screenplays was because I needed a break from teaching law, so now, I reasoned, I needed a break from my break. So our reservations at Langkawi hotels arraigned, we were headed out for a mysterious, little known place near the border with Thailand.

Of course, with my fitful research of the topic of Langkawi I was immediately drawn to the famous cable car, located fifteen minutes from the airport. Vicky had a day before shooting and her gear would arrive the next day, so we had twenty four hours to make the best of it. Shooting alligator photos at an alligator farm sounded like a good enough gig and really just an excuse to travel and we were thrilled to have the chance to go up the cable car. We were told a cafe at the top of the tram awaited us with, we hoped, some cold beers, and maybe some cooler temperatures. There were a couple stations on our way up to the top, the ride incredibly comfortable where we were able to see Gunung Machincang at the top.

It’s funny that with all the digital equipment Vicky has on her shoots, she carries an old Nikon 35mm from the 1970’s for her own use with a single lens. She says it’s light, she doesn’t worry about losing it or damaging it, and the battery lasts a year, unlike on a digital camera that requires battery monitoring all the time. A few rolls of film and she’s good to go, and she got off some beautiful shots on the way up to the heights on Langkwai.

Welcome to Kuala Lumpur

Posted by Dylan on August 24, 2009

“But they have gold courses here!” I pleaded, but my protestations fell on deaf ears and off we went to Petronas Twin Towers because if you visit the same Kualalumpur Malaysia hotel we did as you ask for a breath taking place to go visit (that apparently does not, in this instance, involve golf, to my chagrin and eventually ever loving gratitude, more on that later) they might just say the Petronas Twin Towers. OK all ready, I thought, we can hit the museum and shopping later, I had no idea Barb was so interested in architecture. But off we went in a cab in the crowded, noisy exhilarating streets of Kuala Lumpur blasting across town like a cork popped out of a bottle.

And like a cork, we popped out on to the main grounds of the Towers and they say they were built to reflect Malaysia’s new modern face and as a source of pride, blah blah, while that may be true, they are quite modern, and quite striking, with their Asian inspired set backs and funky rounded ramparts, the overwhelming impression I got was “Wow, those are some tall buildings!” and to crane my neck and gasp like some slack jawed gawker from the sticks whose never been to a proper city, but while I may be a gawker I’d been to cities before and never seen anything to compare to this. We stood on the observation deck and looked out to what seemed like the ends of the earth (I thought I could see California) when just that moment they played Hotel California by the Eagles, which I thought was kind of surreal.

I was starting to get a little woozy and light headed way up there and pleaded to go have a beer and recover my strength from this high adventure when I was informed that when we got to the ground we’d be off to our next destination, and this may or not involve Malaysian beer.

Mumbai Documentaries and Short Films

When it comes to four-star hotels, Mumbai is a veritable feast.  As one of the most exciting cities in the world, Mumbai has a fair share of excellent accommodations.  Our hotels are extremely distinctive, offering a sumptuous blend of innovation and tradition, with all the latest in technologies and design, but not skimping on hospitality, and all the qualities that will make your stay memorable.  Our hotels are carefully maintained with emphases placed on service and special features, to help relax the body and mind, and replenish the spirit.  Mumbai is a dazzling array of cultures and traditions, and your stay here deserves a place of immaculate repose, so that you are refreshed to enjoy the many adventures to be had in the city.

As one of the longest continually-inhabited cities on the planet, Mumbai has always been a magnet for some of the best minds in the world.  Artists and scientists alike are drawn to the city, pulled by the promises only a rich human energy can hold.  There is an intoxicating rhythm here, one that even a brief stay can reveal.  There are enormous distractions and entertainments, and the whole family will find something to love in Mumbai.  If the film industry is among your interests, then this is a gold mine.  Not only can one find movie stars and entertainers from all walks of life, there is a very sizable independent film culture.  This is attested to by one of the more interesting film competitions, the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short, and Animation Films.

This competition gives a special place for the other categories of movie entertainment, and categories that are often too overlooked by the rest of the industry.  The competition is open to anyone, will the call for entries posted in multiple locations around the world.  There are several sections for the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short, and Animation Films with categories for above and below 30 minutes, debut films, student films, animations, and short fiction films.  This is an excellent opportunity to screen films that fall outside of the blockbuster categories, and taste some of the hidden treasures from the global film community.

Phoenix Weather

Posted by Dylan on August 21, 2009

Phoenix is a hot place in the summer temperatures can get well into the hundreds. Day time temps can get as high as 119 degrees in the summer. June is usually the hottest month because it is the driest and temperature soar. In July and August generally the temps are a few degrees cooler due to the monsoon weather flow bringing in humid air from the gulf of Mexico to the region. Fall, winter and spring are perfect weather times in the fall and spring the days are warm, generally in the 80s and 90s wit nice cool evenings. It is not unusual to wear shorts the day and a jacket at night this time of year. The Winters are mild with only a few nights a year getting cold enough for frost. It is rare that a day doesn’t go over 40 degrees in Phoenix. Most winter days range in the 50s to the 70s. There is less than 7 inches of rain here annually thus a desert city. The native vegetation has adapted well to these conditions of little rain, much sun and plenty of heat. The Desert Botanical Gardens are a great place to see the variety of desert dewelling plants native to Arizona and from all over the world. The gardens were started in the 1930’s and houses a very large collection of desert plants from all over the world. The gardens can be accessed bu public transportation from some of the best Phoenix  hotels. Phoenix can be brutal in the summer but everything is air conditioned. Not unlike cold climate Phoenicians go from houses, cars, work, shopping and dining places that are all air conditioned in the summer. After all it is the invention of modern air conditioning that has allowed the population growth to be so big in Phoenix.

Farmers Markets

Posted by Dylan on August 21, 2009

Farmers Markets are the best they are popping up all over the country and world as people become more aware of good nutrition and healthy foods. People are becoming more aware of the impact of moving foods half way around the world. Eating local foods makes much more sense. Food s that were crowning the climate and region you living. The carbon impact of these foods is much less than say an apple in the United States of America that has been flown in from Chili in the off season for apples in the US. The trend toward the local grower and local farmer is an encouraging one. More small farmers are able to make a living growing foods by bring them into the farmers markets to sell themselves to their customers. This is a great advantage for the grower, direct and instant feed back from the end user on quality and quantity. The grower can communicate to the customers what will be up and coming. Which crops will be in next week for the market and the customer builds excitement and anticipation for the product to come in from the field! These foods are fresher, generally organic, ripe from the field as opposed to ripening on the truck or in the stores back room and healthier, no doubt. This trend is effecting all aspects of the food business. Grocery stores are caring more and more organic foods. Resturaunts from the small American dinners to the best Cape Town restaurants are now focused on offering local fresh organic fare. This trend is likely to continue as health and nutrition awareness continue to grows. As evidence continues to pile up about the detrimental effects of pesticides on us the environment our pets and wild animals. It would be nice if all urban dwellers could have access to at least one farmers market once a week near them.

Catching up in Penang

Posted by Dylan on August 20, 2009

This beautiful island has been called the food capital of Malaysia with its cheap and plentiful street food I see why. Lots of places to get hawker food from roadside places, and the food is heavily influences by Thailand and of course Chinese cooking since Chinese make up a large part of the local population. You sometimes see these food hawkers near the hotels Penang has established and it’s possible to get great great food cheap. We really enjoyed the noodles and there was lots of seafood.

It’s impossible not to notice the British influence in the architecture after almost two centuries of colonial rule, the oldest of which is Fort Cornwallis with its star shaped design and inside an array of old cannons. We bummed around the fort looking at a statue of the founder Francis Light in all his colonial finery. The fort was built to protect against the French and built of brick and is very nicely preserved. We really wanted to go to the Botanical Gardens but we needed lunch so we had some fish and noodle soup and some iced tea and we shared some roti and some dahl from an Indian hawker. We saw a beautiful Chinese temple in historic Georgetown. Then Beverly saw her holy grail, a fish spa where she could go for treatment. You put your feet in water and fish nibble away at them. It’s supposed to be wonderful, but I decided to pass and let her have the fun. She was very pleased to have had fish nibbling her feet. I’d rather be out sampling more food, so I did while she was in there, having a small plate of chaat from another Indian vendor who was very friendly and we tried our best to talk to each other. I found out he had lived there for over thirty years.

Brisbane’s Kristy Apps

Posted by Dylan on August 20, 2009

Brisbane boutique hotels offer the unique touches only a boutique hotel can offer in the unique city of Brisbane.  One of Australia’s largest cities, and boasting a gorgeous coastline with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, Brisbane is coming into its own as a cultural powerhouse on the international scene.  Guests here will be immersed in the pleasures of the city, but with the sheer decadence of escape that the boutique hotel experience can offer.  There are all the usual fine amenities that other luxury hotels can offer, such as fine dining, excellent exercise facilities, and state of the art technology, but there are also all the added extras that our distinctive hotels offer.  For the discerning traveler, whose tastes demand an alternative to the chain hotel, our boutique hotels are the perfect choice.

Brisbane’s metropolitan offerings are substantial, and every member of the family will find a wide range of choices for daily adventures.  Touring, sight seeing, museums, and people watching are all at a premium here.  The night life is also truly spectacular, with restaurants, bars, and clubs that will offer sublime entertainment.  The local music scene is edgy, individual, and very well plugged in to the global stage.  One of Brisbane’s local artists, Kristy Apps, is someone to watch.  Her folk music roots combine with the newest innovations in alternative music to make very exciting listening, and for the lucky traveler who can catch one of her shows here, exciting viewing as well.

The Brisbane music scene has been taken by Kristy Apps with her third LP, Pour Me Out, which turns up the volume a few notches from her previous releases.    She likes to alternate between a heavier rock sound and a softer and more intimate feel.  It’s a combination that works well for her, drawing comparisons to Patti Smith for her intensity and boldness, and her moments of sheer vulnerability.  Her street-smart talk and looks are backed by a courageous walk, and this feeds into her musical sensibility as well.  Her shows are an excellent match of sensibilities for the indie traveler.

Sangita Kathiwada and Bombay Spice

Posted by Dylan on August 20, 2009

Traveling the world means sampling the best cuisines in the world’s greatest restaurants, and Bombay restaurants is certainly prepared to compete with any of them.  As Indian food is among the world’s finest in terms of taste and sheer visual beauty, dining out here is absolute pleasure.  Our restaurants sample the greatest of India’s cooking, from North to South, and demonstrate a stunning variety that will please every palate.  Indian cooking has a long and fascinating history, much like the country itself.  Where human habitation has such a long presence, one would expect the history of the food to mirror the history of the people.  There are long traditions in culinary expertise here, where centuries of experimentation have led to a certain perfection in some recipes.  Bombay also has an enormously diverse population, and this cosmopolitan setting gives rise to all sorts of innovations as well.

The curious diners will find themselves treated to a stunning blend of both innovation and tradition in our restaurants.  Food here is never taken lightly, as it is the centerpiece for all kinds of social functions, both public and intimate.  It is difficult, in fact, to look into any facet of life in Bombay without hearing about the food served.  Celebrity stories center around ceremonies and festivities where food is at the center.  One of Bombay’s premiere designers, Sangita Kathiwada often shows up at celebrity events where the cuisine is mentioned.  It is sort of a cornerstone of celebrity culture as much as it is of the daily culture.  This makes a good deal of sense when one considers that people look to celebrities for all sorts of cues to what the good life might consists of.  Besides the work, and the usual trappings of fame, such as houses and cars, the eating habits of the rich and famous come to play a part in the cultural myths that are built around stardom.

Sangita Kathiwada
has a working practice that enters the culinary realm in rather unexpected ways, as well.  Her designs are shown all over the world, and she has started a non-profit that brings together rural artisans and urban designers.  In the way that recipes are often combinations of cultures, regions, and peoples, the realm of design is often valued as much for variety as it is for its taste.  Variety is a central feature of some of the best cuisines here, and one will find this reflected in our restaurants.

Youthful Ideas in Scotland

Posted by Dylan on August 19, 2009

Just to the south of the city limits of Peterhead, Scotland lies the town of Boddam.  Many of those spending time in the larger town stay in the Peterhead hotels,  will often travel to the small villages that surround the town.  One such town is Boddam.  What is special about the town these days, are the young people who have recently taken a stand at improving their own communities.

These students took it upon themselves recently when they formed their own committee.  Their strategy includes the fundraising of money in order to make improvements in their neighborhoods.  Their first meeting is scheduled to occur in a few weeks.  The are planning discussions that will encourage ideas for their first regeneration project of fixing up a run down play ground in a park located in the village.

An appeal to the community was put out there, by the Boddam Development Trust,  for locals to become involve in the aspects of what it takes to improve one’s own surroundings, one’s own community.  This inspired these youngsters and they sprung into action.  The Trust has put their complete trust in the hands of the kids, who will organize their own meetings, and choose their own chairmen and women.

The Trust states that they have already been brainstorming and have come up with some incredible ideas and plans so far.  The ideas of youthhttp://www.creativeyouthideas.com/c  are fresh, they have determination and drive behind those truly amazing ideas.  One young girl who is part of the committee stated that she wanted to become involved because she wanted to take part in the effort to make Boddam a brighter place to live for the other children and for everyone in the town.

The chairman of the Trust stated that he is looking for to the enthusiasm that is already being shown, and is confident that everyone involved will have no problem in reaching their full potential as well as the potential of the entire town.

Truro

Posted by Dylan on August 19, 2009

Truro, England is located in the region of Cornwall. The region itself is extremely significant to English society and history and is known internationally due to one of England’s greatest writers, William Shakespeare. In many of his plays, Shakespeare would name a character based on the region from which they originate. This usually corresponds to an actual historical figure that was part of the plot. This is primarily associated with the history plays. And while King Lear is believed to be based on a possible historic figure, the circumstances of the script are entirely his. This may not matter to guests staying in a Truro hotel, who are aware that Cornwall is one of the characters in this great tragedy.

Interestingly, some of the characters in his plays are similar to those coming from the medieval morality plays. Not in depth, eloquence, wit of language or charm, though the morality play characters were simply an embodiment of human characteristics of vices and virtues. They were there to progress a moral lesson. Shakespeare is credited with breaking many pre-established rules of play creating and this is one of them, though in certain cases, a character may possess traits that are extremely are also symbolic in their interpretation. In King Lear, the character of Cornwall is a strong representation of the abuse of power.

The Duke of Cornwall is the husband to Regan, one of The King’s daughters. Lear had a total of three daughters though one of them was banished from the country when she failed to please him enough in her expression of devotion and love. Consequently, Lear had been planning on dividing his kingdom among the four of them according to their statement of love. The kingdom end up being divided among the two daughters Goneril, and Regan . This however, could never be enough and the story soon unravels with various interests of greed and power.

Home revamping

Posted by Dylan on August 19, 2009

Home renovation is one of those things. You can either go big, ripping out entire bathrooms and knocking down walls. Or go small with just a few fresh coats of paint and some new area rugs. The thing is that you have to decide what is within your budget and what will make you happy. Going over budget certainly will not make you happy at all.

The first thing you should consider is if you are willing to do any of the work yourself. Doing the project DIY can save you tons of money in the long run.  If you are thinking about doing any demolition this is a place where you can easily save some cash by doing it yourself. And how fun would it be to take out your frustrations with the world on those walls you just hate. You can do this is a kitchen or bathroom remodel job. Just make sure that you don’t wreck anything too important to the project. Like, say pipes. Yeah, that would be bad.

If you are thinking about just going small in your home renovation you should just do some minor upgrades.  Consider changing flooring, new carpets can always freshen up a living area, or a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for a space. New blinds is also a great way to update a space. New window treatments can really change the entire attitude of a room and give it a unique look that can be achieved without spending a fortune. Next Day Blinds is a great company to work with if you are considering new window treatments.

Next Day Blinds offers a website with thousands of choices that you can either order direct of go check out the styles in one of their many showrooms.

1,000 Cranes

Posted by Dylan on August 19, 2009

Fold one thousand origami cranes and your wishes will be granted by a crane. This comes from an ancient Japanese story popularized after the atomic bombings of Japan in World War II. A young girl survived the bombs only to develop leukemia latter on. She was told to fold 1000 cranes and she would get well. She passed away before the completion of the thousand. Her friends took up the project and completed the thousand cranes in her honor. Today cranes are folded and strung bu the thousand and hung at the memorial for each of the bombings and in Santa Fe and Los Alamos New Mexico where research and experimentation were carried out making the atomic bomb possible. Today a traditional wedding gift in many Asian countries the gift of one thousand cranes. Being a wish for a peaceful, happy, long life. Cranes are folded in memorial to people that have passed. To raise money and awareness for a cause. The act of folding the same model over and over is meditative and relaxing. Focusing on the model at hand is important as focusing on the last crane when there are still more than 700 to go will drive you crazy. The Thais love to fold the cranes. In Thailand all school children are required to learn how to fold these cranes. The Thai government has been known to drop plane loads of cranes folded by school children: the Buddhist offering of peace and long life even to ones enemy. When in Bangkok 5 star hotels Thailand you will undoubtedly see cranes folded somewhere. For the opening of a new business, decoration for a wedding or other occasion. In Japan framing one thousand small cranes in a shadow box is a popular wedding gift. The cranes are usually folded by someone close to the bride. These are beautiful things to see. It is awe inspiring to see so many origami models together in one place and to think of all the time and effort it takes to do that. How amazing!

Intriguing Goa India

Posted by Dylan on August 18, 2009

What an intriguing place with a history nearly as long as any place on earth. Known history of the area goes as far back as the 3rd century BCE. This area was a part of the Mauyan Empire back in the day. The ruler of this region at this time was Satavahanans of Kolhapur a Buddhist emperor. From around 580 BCE to 750 BCE the region passed under the control of the Chalukya Dynasty, an Indian dynasty the covered a very large area of present day India. For many years after this dynasty the area went back and forth under the rule of the Delhi and the Sultanate. By 1370 the kingdom was loosing control of the area and the area went under Harlhara I of the Vijayanagara empire. This continued to the latter part of the 15th century. when the Bahmani sultans of Gulbarga governed the area. In 1510 Portuguese invaders gained control of the region this lead to the permanent settlement of Velha or Old Goa. Wars with neighboring rulers and the Portuguese continued for many years. The repressive religious policies of the Portuguese caused many to migrate from the area to Goans. In 1812 British began the occupation of Goa. In 1843 the capitol was moved to Panjim and by the middle of the 1800’s what is current day Goa was defined. It took until the British were out of India and the Indian army forced the Portuguese occupiers from Goa in 1961 that Goa came completely under control of India. Now it is India’s 25th state sitting on the Arabian sea with 5 star hotels Goa  (http://5starhotelsgoa.com) with views of the ocean. Goa is 1430 sq miles most of Goa is part of a coastal area known as Konkan  an escarpment coming up from the Western Ghats mountains that seperate it from the Deccan Plateau. It reaches an altitude of 3837 feet at Sonsogor. There are about 70 miles of coast line. Goa is a humid zone on the Arabian Sea it is hot and humid most of the year there. Most days are 95 degrees and the rainiest time of the year is early June. Winter is very short about mid-December to Feb. The nights go down to 68 degrees the days are about 85.

A Sunny Day Pond Side

Posted by Dylan on August 18, 2009

I love ponding it is so relaxing to watch the beautiful Koi and gold fish swimming freely in their watery environment. i built my pond myself a very satisfying project and yes it was a lot of hard work! Digging the hole and moving all the earth was the most work of all. But the end results especially years latter is a beautiful water environment that look like it has been there many more years then it has. Mornings I sit quietly with mu hot cup of coffee and watch the fish swim, enjoy the beauty of the plants and the quiet of the morning. In the afternoons I enjoy the warmth of the sun on my face and listen to the gentle sounds of the tricking water. Weekends I trim plants, remove weeds, clean the filters and perform the necessary upkeep. Speaking of which is minimal if the pond is set up right at first. Combining gardening with water gardening is a wonderful combination and a way to create an environment for all kinds of wildlife. Hummingbirds visit the flowers, dragonflies dance on the water, spiders spin their webs above the splashing water and song birds drop in for a drink. The relaxation afforded by this garden is unsurpassed. When I close my eyes and relax I can drift back to the days I sat by the beautiful tropical pond at the 4 star hotels delhi when traveling in India. Hearing the running water is so relaxing it creates a positive chi. A water garden can be created nearly any where, in a container on a porch or deck, above ground with built up walls or in the ground. My pond is partly in the ground and a little above. In today’s modern world I think it is very important to bring bits of peace and beauty into your world where ever you can. gardening relieves stress, lowers blood pressure, let’s you forget your worries, connects you to the earth and allows you to pass the time in a productive manner.

Largest Spanish Island

Posted by Dylan on August 18, 2009

Mallorca or Majorca is Spain’s largest island and it is located off the cost of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. Mallorca is part of the Balearic Island archipelago. The name comes from the Latin term insula maior or large island in time the name of the island became
Mallorca. Palma is the capitol of the island is home to many luxury Mallorca hotels. Mallorca is a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches, warm waters, sunshine, great foods and gracious hospitality. Majorca has been inhabited since ancient times. There are burial chambers and traces of Paleolithic life about 6000 to 4000 BCE. Romans ruled te island in the 123 BCE at which time the towns of Pollentia and Palmaria were founded. Olives are the driving factor of the local economy also viniculture and salt mining. Majorican soldiers were valued by the Roman army due to their skill with the sling. By 26 BCE Vandals pillaged the island and made it part of their kingdom in 465 BCE. The rise of the Byzantine Empire brought a new regain to the island in 534 BCE it was run as part of Sardinia. Christianity was brought to the island by the Byzantines many churches were built, then Muslin raiders increasingly attacked the island from the north of Africa eventually relieving the island of its control by the Byzantine. By 902 the Caliphate of Corbida took over the island bringing in a new period or prosperity to the island. The moors improved agriculture with irrigation and developed local industries. This went on until 1015 ACE. After that the island came under the rule of the Taifa of Denia then from 1087 to 1114 was an independant tafia. In 1114 an expedition of Pisans and Catalans overran the island ruling Palma for 8 months. This went on for some time until the late 1800’s when the island came under Spanish control.

Holistic Nature in New York City

Posted by Dylan on August 18, 2009

A good friend of mine recommended that I need to stay in New York and contact one of the holistic doctors from a list she gave me. She told me that New York City is the best source to find qualified Holistic doctors. I was thinking of going down to Mexico, but she told me she was cured within a years time by staying in the States and being close to her family. Since most of my family is here in New York, I agreed to stay here and try one of the doctors on her list. Plus, she did recover from a horrible disease.

Since I live in upstate, I contacted a New York City car hire because I wasn’t up to taking public transportation or dealing with hailing cabs all day. Before I entered this new Holistic journey, I did a little research on energy healing. It’s a very broad category with many alternative healing methods. Some describe utilizing the universal life force as a primary healing modality. Holistic is quiet different than the allopathic or Western medicine practices of what I am used to, but with my aliment, I was given no hope by Western standard practices. So, my only choice was to investigate alternative medicines.

Most energy therapies work on a theory that matter and energy are not exclusive opposites, but rather that matter is simply a much more denser form of energy which is perceived by our senses. Some energy therapies are associated with systems of traditional Indian or Chinese medicines such as Ayurvedic and Acupuncture. Others are drawing upon contemporary scientific theories such as energy medicine which focuses on having the appropriate amount of energy flowing smoothly throughout the body. This promotes blockages to be removed or dissolved which then the healing energy can increase and stimulate the life force in the body to facilitate it’s own natural healing process. Some focus on intentional healing. But, basically, improving the flow of energy supports the self-healing capacity of the body, which they explain, the body is it’s own natural healer.

All this is new to me, but if my friend recommends I stay in New York City, I will stay here and pick a Holistic Doctor. My family already told me they will support me in what ever I decide.
