There are some really excellent restaurants, and lots of fun places to go to hear live music, djs, and dancing, and the parties are exceptional. One of the recent trends in local music has been a resurgence and reinvention of reggae music in Thailand, and one of the groups to watch out for us Job2Do.

With their lively rhythms, and intoxicating beats, Job2Do is finding a solid fan base here, mostly among locals. This is usually a good sign, as a lot of the bands that come through have their sights set on capturing the tourist’s dollars, and usually this means the music is extremely derivative. Job2Do on the other hand, is attracting attention because of the strength of the music, and the integrity of the band members. With their focus on environmental concerns, and the promotion of the reggae way of life, their sound tends to make the rooms lively, wherever they might be playing, and Phuket would be a particularly spectacular place to hear the sounds.

Finding a perfect job

Working at a Mom and Pop’s plumbing company was the best job I ever had. Even the hiring process was great; I was interviewed by my future manager for about a half-an-hour, and he offered my the job. No 2 to 3 more interviews with upper management or with the Human Resource department. He just simply trusted his judgement and hired me. About a month later, my new manager called a meeting with everyone in my department and his opening statement was telling us that his job is to make sure that when we wake up in the morning we want to come to work and get the job done. Wow, I’ve never had any boss any company ever care about what I felt waking up in the morning. Even when I thought I had a perfect job with New York Business Hotels, nothing compared to that moment in that meeting. He even teared up when he said explained what his purpose was and then proceed to tell us what a great job we were doing.

I fell in love with working for a Mom-and-Pops. My manager kept his promise and I did enjoy going to work every day. But only after working there for about half-a-year, the Mom-and-Pops plumbing business sold out to a big conglomerate corporation, a nation wide plumbing company. This was a sad day. The corporation kept the name of the Mom-and-Pops so as to not lose a dedicated customer base, but the corporation wasn’t dedicated to us the loyal employee. After about 3 months, I noticed it was hard to wake up and look forward to going to work. Eventually, after working for the conglomerate for 3 more deary years, I decided to start my own business which now pays for a few of my bills, but not enough to make a living at it yet. So, once again, I’m in search of that once found perfect job and focusing on the Mom-and-Pops of my community.

Fishing in a foreign Country

Fishing for the bottom feeders along the banks of the city’s water way canals his only thoughts effected by an empty stomach are about catching the funky tasting fish that can only be deep fried and loaded with fish sauce. Thoughts about how this plentiful free food of the waters will fill his belly and his Korean wife’s belly and keep the pangs of hunger away for another day. Coming from Malaysia, Daviz was hoping to ride on the wave of living the good life with which the United States promised. With which his friends, who were already living here, wrote to him to come, any which way he could, and leave the desperate life of rural Singapore.

Daviz, wasn’t really desperate in Singapore, having employment with two Singapore Luxury Hotels. Actually, he was better off than most of his friends living in Singapore and his friends living in the United States. So, sitting there with a makeshift fishing pole in his hand and looking at a Styrofoam ice-chest empty of fish, he can’t help wonder and question his decision to pack up and move to a foreign country. A wealthy country, a country that no article on the Internet or written in books about living in the States could possibly convey or even attempt to make clear just how massively the people of this country are all consuming of non-essential materials, all fearfully preoccupied and all weary of foreigners.

Daviz and his wife have been living here, legally, in the United States for over nine months now. But they are living in out of a van given to them by the kindness of a Korean Christian Church with which his wife attends. Daviz’s years of experience at working in Luxury Hotels as not gotten him employment and his wife’s refusal to learn English isn’t helping just how hard it truly is to make it in the United States, harder than he imagined. But, sitting there, by the banks of a man-made river, Daviz’s thoughts turn back to the fishing for what is free and what is good.

New York Waste Water

Clean water is a vital resource for all of New York’s industries; for food processing plants, the dairies, all manufacturing and the travel accommodation industries across the entire state. Protection of the water, the health of the communities and the prospects for current economic growth are tied into modern, efficient and reliable wastewater treatment systems. Inadequate sewage treatment infrastructure may be jeopardized by the worsening economy. This threatens the excellent quality of life for all New York residents.

The New York Airport Hotel industry alongside the aforementioned businesses have newly revised systems in place and aiding in the future quality of life for all the live and visit New York. They are major contributors to New York’s municipalities enabling enhancement on already existing sewage treatment infrastructure and to also create innovative ways for inexpensive sewage treatment infrastructures. Current funding to meet New York’s massive wastewater needs are estimated to be $36 billion over the next 20 years. New York must evolve and go beyond providing more funding to local governments; a comprehensive assessment involves effort to determine the most efficient, adaptive and sustainable technology. Another benefit to investing in New York’s water infrastructure is the creation of jobs from the lowest skills levels to the highest. This will create approximately 50,000 jobs with each billion spent with federal funding.

New York is committed to the renewal, replacement and improvement of the wastewater infrastructure across the state. There are well over 600 municipal wastewater treatment facilities, thousands are privately held residential facilities, and approximately 1.5 million septic systems, the overwhelming magnitude of this issue is considerable. But, with new investments being reached and adopting innovative technology that is more energy efficient and economical at the same time preserving environmental standards will challenge New York to maintain its world renown reputation and leadership in putting it’s residence health first and foremost. As a world leader in the sewage wastwater treatment facilities and infrastructure, many of the major cities are watching closely as to how New York will handle this immense and overwhelming task.

Women Finding Employment in Mauritius

In recent years there has been a rapid growth of employable jobs in the export manufacturing industries of Mauritius. Despite the highest level of male unemployment, women have acquired the majority of the jobs. A study the country presents an example of sex segregation and it is debatable whether women are or not taken advantage of by this very segregation. Using female labor in the export industries seems to be all encompassing and is wide spread in the developing countries and is often a part of the international search for cheap labor by intensive industries. Not to exclude the Mauritius Luxury Hotel business in this, but the study rarely sites this business.

Out of 500,00 persons in employment in Mauritius, over 200,00 are women. They are mostly employed in low skilled and low paying jobs. Only 5 percent of the senior positions are held by women. Limited economic opportunities for women affect the type of employment they can find. Industrial employers in Mauritius prefer female laborers because because they are restricted to occupations with low wages and little opportunity for advancement, plus the employers find that women make better employees than males. The reason for women accepting these lower wages is the status of women in Mauritius is low. Another survey of top employers was taken to determine the degree of awareness and the level of supportiveness of women’s issues. Findings revealed the supportiveness is relatively high, but actions, policies and practices are strikingly insensitive to women’s issues. Defying the current developing status of the country’s economy. Even though the country distinguishes itself from the negativity of several Third World states that have developed advanced action plans in the area of gender discrimination.

The question arise in the case of women factory workers in Mauritius: will employer’s preference for female workers, reasons stated above, lead to, in the long run, to a greater equality and an improvement in their status or will they forever be exploited as the weaker socioeconomic group? It’s too early to tell or make any conclusions. But the evolution of the female plight in Mauritius suggest improvement.

Try to stay positive in a bad economy

Looking for a job is tough right now. The economy is in a different place right now. One of the groups having the hardest time looking for a job is those people who are fresh out of college. They have been forced to take jobs that are not fitting of their degree as a way to make ends meet. Your skills may not be as marketable as they once were. It takes more than a degree to be successful in today’s market. Even someone with born leadership skills needs to re-evaluate their skill set from time to time.

Those young people should feel lucky however, people rarely get a chance to look at their life and decide if their chosen career path is for them. Perhaps they can find they are better at something else that they may have never even thought of before. It’s a good time to look at your career path. Maybe there are skills you have you don’t even know about.

If you are currently unemployed it may be time to take a look at the type of leader you hope to become in your industry of choice. Do you feel you need more leadership development or leadership training ? It is never a bad idea to continue your education. Seek out ways you can become a better leader, whether it be in your job or within your family.

It can be helpful to write yourself a plan or really a business training plan. Decide if you next step is merely at the book store, or if you seek management training from other education sources.

In the end, it’s all about finding your happiness, and happiness can sometimes come from a bad situation. So if you are unemployed keep your head in the game and your heart open to any opportunity, you may discover a passion you did not even know existed.
